Review: Apple iPad Air (M3, 13-inch)

Table of Content

Apple has released the 2025 iPad Air models, which come in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes. Both models are powered by the new M3 chip, making them faster and more powerful. While the design and display look the same as last year’s iPad Air, the main upgrade this time is the new chip.

Design and Display
The iPad Air (2025) keeps the same design as last year. It has thin bezels, a lightweight body, and a shiny aluminum finish. You can choose from colors like Blue, Purple, Starlight, and Space Gray. The screen is still a Liquid Retina display with a 60Hz refresh rate, which is a little disappointing for those hoping for a smoother 120Hz refresh rate.

Performance and Software
The big change this year is the M3 chip. It’s much faster than the M2 chip from last year’s model. The M3 chip has 8 CPU cores, 9 GPU cores, and 16 NPU cores, which makes the iPad Air up to 2x faster than the 2022 iPad Air with the M1 chip. Both iPad Air models have 8GB of RAM and run iPadOS 18.3.1. It also supports advanced AI tools, thanks to Apple Intelligence. The iPad Air still has a USB-C port for fast data transfer and connecting accessories.

Camera
The camera setup hasn’t changed. The iPad Air (2025) has a 12MP rear camera for taking pictures and scanning documents, plus a 12MP front camera for video calls and selfies.

Battery and Pricing
Battery life stays the same as last year, so you can still expect a full day of use. Charging is done through the USB-C port, but there’s no MagSafe or faster charging this time.

The prices are:

  • 11-inch Wi-Fi model starts at $599/€699/£599 for 128GB storage.
  • 11-inch Wi-Fi + Cellular model starts at $749/€869/£749.
  • 13-inch Wi-Fi model starts at $799/€949/£799.
  • 13-inch Wi-Fi + Cellular model starts at $949/€1,119/£949.

Apple has also updated the Magic Keyboard, which now has a larger trackpad and extra function keys. The Magic Keyboard costs $269/€329/£269 for the 11-inch iPad Air and $319/€349/£299 for the 13-inch model.

Pre-orders are open now, and the new iPad Air models will ship on March 12. While the M3 chip gives better performance, there are no big changes to the design or display, making this update more of an improvement than a huge upgrade.
